The development of critical reading skills is an ongoing process that extends beyond the confines of school. Just as an athlete continually practices his or her sport, a reader must continually practice reading to be successful. With these thoughts in mind, the language arts teachers at Bowling Green School require all students entering grades 4 through 12 to read an assigned book during the summer.
Summer reading must be completed by the first day of the 2021-2022 school year. An examination (with objective and/or essay items) on the book will be administered during the first week of school in each English class. Following this assessment, teachers will integrate the required summer reading texts into lessons during the first 9-weeks. Classroom instruction will require students to use their summer reading texts for reference and analysis.
